Microclimate, environmental modification through use of Bergen Device
- Deployed over landscape small black metal forms (Hence Bergen, Norway.. home to Black metal )
- Decreases albedo from that of snow(0.90) to that of bare earth(0.04) causing localised increased solar radiation absorption
- Local increase in temperature, enough to start melting at an average ground temperature –2°C rather than the usual 0°C
- Ephemeral holes will occur in the white landscape, during the next snow the Bergen device will be buried but its presence will still effect the local area
